Entertaining the Kids is part of Davina Shefet’s series First, There Was Magic, which imagines a post-apocalyptic world after a great flood where only women and girls have survived. In this reality, animals and creatures have transformed into magical beings, blurring the line between myth and survival.

In this piece, a young woman sits with two alchemical vials, symbols of transformation and play. She entertains three winged piglets resting on an enormous bed of daisies, their expressions caught between wonder and amusement. The scene evokes tenderness and resilience, suggesting that even in a world rebuilt from catastrophe, joy and imagination remain essential acts of survival.
