About the Artwork

This series was born after Davina Shefet’s visit to Charleston House, where she noticed how the Bloomsbury artists lived among Staffordshire figurines, placing them playfully throughout their interiors like small staged scenes.

In her paintings, these figures — riders, musicians, and lovers — are reimagined as vivid still lifes. Surrounded by swirling patterns and Fauvist sunflowers in homage to Van Gogh, they move beyond ornament to embody companionship, artistry, and imagination. With bold color and layered brushwork, Shefet transforms these modest folk objects into theatrical presences, bridging domestic play and painterly modernism.
