About the Artwork

The Abstract and People explores the tension between the human figure and the inner landscapes that surround and inhabit it. Inspired by Egon Schiele’s nervous, angular bodies — particularly the fiery-haired women who dominate his work — these paintings weave together figuration and abstraction. The figures are fragile yet defiant, suspended in turbulent environments that mirror their own psychic states. The abstract world is not a backdrop but a psychological map: the storm of emotions, memories, and desires that shape the figure’s presence.

In Woman with Orange Boots, the figure bends and folds into herself, hiding behind her vivid footwear as if they were armor. Her body is restless, nervous, outlined with urgency, echoing Toulouse-Lautrec’s dancers and performers caught off stage. The surrounding abstraction swells like a stage set built from emotions — flashes of pink, green, and violet mark the drama of concealment. This is a portrait of vulnerability disguised in spectacle, where the body both resists and succumbs to the gaze. The boots, absurdly bright, become a mask for everything the face cannot hide.
